TEXAS

In Shamrock we find two motels waiting for us :

The Kelly Motel. Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Tucker who owned the motel in the first image (stamped 1960) called it

home away from home”. When Helen and Carrol Williams owned and managed it in the second image it was

easy to find – hard to leave”.

Two images of the Sun ‘n’ Sand Motor Inn (and Maverick Restaurant) owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Chester

Glancy Jr. (So it says on the second card) The first card was stamped in 1961, the second one in 1966. Some heavy remodeling must have been done between these two cards.

Two images too of the Golden Spread Motel in Groom. The first card was stamped in 1957 and was sent to a Dutch

                                                            address.

In Amarillo we have a great choice in where to spend the night. Listed alphabetically again :

The Arrow Courts, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Allen. Looks like they sold gas as well.

At the Circle and home of the Chuck Wagon Spread was the Broncho Lodge. This card was stamped in 1971.

New Franciscan furniture awaited you at the Del Camino Motel at 3619 NE 8th Avenue. The Wares were your hosts here.

At 410 N. Fillmore we find the Elite Motel. Some cozy rooms on this multi-view card and look at that old 66 sign in front of the building.

Two different images for the Farrell Manor (Motel). It was either at the 66 by-pass at Polk and NW 8th  (card 1) or

100 NE 8th Street (card 2) .

Grande Tourist Courts, 68 units and 24 hour maid and porter service for a reasonable rate. Linen card.

The Graycourt Tourist Lodge informs us that Amarillo is also known as ‘Helium City’ on this linen card.

They were at 1706 NE 8th Avenue.

Hillcrest Motel at 3017 NE 8th Avenue .They had the Pulse-A-Rhythm mattresses, yes ! Card stamped in 1968.

Holiday Inn East at 1411 NE 8th Street with a Villa Restaurant.

Holiday Inn Midtown at 317 Amarillo Boulevard. Card is dated 1968 by a previous owner.

A Holiday Inn Motel. I have double checked this card and that is what it said on the back. I agree that when you look at the sign it is more obvious that it would be a Hotel. Anyway, great looking gals in the pool !

Longhorn Lodge Motel. This linen card was stamped in 1959. Great sign with that large horse shoe.

The Model Motel was luxuriously furnished. The previous owner of this card stayed here in 1956 and 1959.

Was the Overnite Trailer Inn a place where you could rent a room too ? The name led me to believe so.

Two images for the Palo Duro Motel (formerly Palo Duro Court)  at 2820 NE 8th Street. The first one is a multi-view

linen card with two great room scenes.

Another nice example of a Park Plaza Motel, this one at 612 NE 8th Street. The card was stamped in 1956.

On the west side of town, south of the traffic circle, was the Parkview Motel. This linen card was stamped in 1951.

The Plainsman at 1503 NE 8th Street. A panoramic view of the pool and a great sign.

This Ramada Inn stands at 1001 Amarillo Boulevard East, three images of this property.

We are invited to unsaddle at the Ranchouse Motel at 810 NW 8th Street. Some great late 1950’s fifties cars.

The Rodeway Inn at 201 S. Fillmore.

Two images for the Skyline Motel and Coffee shop. The first one a linen multi-view card (just look at that Tumbleweed

Café !) stamped in 1956. The other one a chrome with some nice cars parked out front.

Spanish Courts, 742 N. Fillmore. Great looking buildings on this linen card.

At 112 NW 8th Street was the Town House Motel situated.

Three images of the Trade Winds Motel (also known as the Trade Winds Motor Hotel and Restaurant)

at 1000 N. Fillmore. Two artist impressions here.

True Rest Courts was to be found at 2812 NE 8th Avenue. Were they connected to the next property listed below ?

Three images for the True Rest Motel. Located at 2806 NE  8th Avenue it was owned and operated by

Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Hobgood. The first two cards (the second one is stamped in 1958) mention 30 units, in the third card this had been increased to 53 rooms.

Last stop in Texas is in Vega at the Sands Motel.
