POSTCARDS
Welcome to my collection of postcards
depicting the American motel in all its forms.
I have started this collection in the early 1990's, while traveling in the
To me the motel is a true icon of the 'old American highways' that I like to
travel on so much and the postcards provided me an interesting and relatively
cheap window on a past full of those wonderfully high-finned cars, gas
stations, restaurants and people having a good time in their 'home away from
home'.
It started with a few cards here and there, and now,
early 2006 A.D., the collection stands well over the 17000 mark!

I have now scanned most of the cards in my collection and put them on a CD-ROM.
The cards are shown as they are, complete with writing, cancellations, bends,
tears etc., no electronic enhancement or corrections.
There are real photos, linen cards, white borders, litho's and lots of chromes,
all in color and black 'n' white. They range from 1916 to the present date.
There are interior views, lots of exteriors, plenty of pool shots. Cards with a
single view or two, three or four. There are oversized cards there too. Lots of
'Mom 'n' Pop' places but the chains are also represented. And just for fun I
have put in a few trailer parks there and some of the very old auto camp sites.
Unfortunately my space on the web is
insufficient to show my entire collection. That is why you can only see the
Route 66 related cards. It is possible for you to purchase a 'home-made' copy
of my CD-Rom which will show all the different images! Contact me for details.
Something you would never find on my car :
A fun bumpersticker though !
I would like to hear from you, don't
hesitate to contact me at zoot66@chello.nl!
